At a Service Oklahoma location
Bring primary and secondary ID, your SSN, proof of residency and proof of driver ed. Pass vision screening (you may get a corrective-lens restriction), then the written test. Its questions come from the manual: Oklahoma traffic laws, safe driving practices, and drug and alcohol laws and their effects. Once you pass, the examiner tells you what to pay:
| Application | $4.00 |
| Class D learner license | $38.50 |
| Total | $42.50 |
| Retest | $4.00 |
| Replacement | $25.00 |
The manual doesn't give the question count, pass score, languages, online option or statewide speed limits, and it has no edition date beyond the fee table.
Learner permit to intermediate license
Drive only with a licensed driver 21+ beside you, and hold the permit 180 days. Before the intermediate license, finish the Work Zone Safe course and bring its certificate. Intermediate licenses start at 16 with driver ed, or 16½ without. On the road test, you get three attempts once you're eligible. After that, it's one every 30 days.
Restriction “T”
- Drive only 5 a.m.–10 p.m., except for school, church or work, or with a licensed driver 21+.
- One passenger, unless they're household members or a licensed 21+ driver is present.
- It comes off after 6 months with driver ed, or 1 year without.
Violating a restriction can cost up to $500 and/or 6 months in jail. The manual notes that a quarter of 16-year-olds get a ticket or have a crash in their first year.
One-year revocation: failing to stop for a school or church bus with red loading lights brings a mandatory one-year revocation. Approaching traffic on a divided highway doesn't have to stop.
Alcohol, Move Over and more
- Implied consent: .08+, or any measurable amount under 21, means revocation. A BAC over .05 but under .08 can still bring an impaired-driving charge: $100–$500, up to 6 months in jail, and a 30-day first suspension.
- Bernardo-Mills Law (47 O.S. §11-314): move over a lane or slow down for stationary vehicles with flashing lights.
- Required vehicles stop 15–50 feet from the first track at railroad crossings.
- Insurance: 25/50/25.
- Motorcycles under 16: up to 300cc, 4:30 a.m.–9 p.m., no passengers. Riders under 18 must complete a state-approved basic rider course (required since August 26, 2016). See our motorcycle permit test.
